The Entertainer
Version 07; original piece
The piano piece The Entertainer was composed in 1902 by Scott Joplin and is one of the most famous ragtime works worldwide. It was originally published as a printed sheet music booklet titled A Rag Time Two Step, making Joplin’s music accessible to a wide audience. Typical for Joplin’s style is the stride rhythm: the left hand alternates between bass notes and chords, while the right hand plays syncopated melodies, creating the piece’s lively character. It was later featured in the film The Clou.
I have arranged seven versions for piano: versions 1–6 are simplified, and version 7 is the original.
